The Eleventh Little Indian Boy

Wednesday, May 07, 2003:

I've been eating alot of mangos lately. Dried. Phillipine brand. Big ol' bags that you get from Costco...you know what I'm talking about? Hahaha...yeeeaaahhh!!! Seriously though...I just bought another bag today. They're so good. Lightly frosted with sugar granules on the outside and a firm chewy texture once you start to chomp. In one sitting I can almost kill the entire bag.....monkey style.....=P

Got the chance to grab some dinner with CHKLHG a few nights ago. Taraval Okazuya. For those of you who don't know this yet....the one on Noriega.....across the street from the cheapo dim sum store....closed down for renovations. Man, what's up with that? First Isuzu and now this.....gonna cross my fingers that S&E Cafe somehow can stay afloat...haha. Anyways, while waiting for our food to be prepared we struck up some conversation with a few of the dudes behind the sushi bar. A guy named Mike who is a refugee from Indonesia, Raymond from the Phillipines, and Chris.....who was training to be a Thai kickboxer as a child until he got seriously hurt. Really good peoples. Here's a funny excerpt from part of the conversation.

Mike: Hey where do you work?
CHKLHG: I work for Yahoo....graphic designer....( I'm just chillin and drinking an Asahi )
Mike: Oh, good company. Lots of work.
CHKLHG: Yeah, though it's been kinda slow lately. But, it will pick up once World Cup starts.
Mike: So you guys have girlfriends?
CHKLHG: .........
Me: ..........
Mike: What's the matter....you guys don't like girls?
Me: Hahahahaaaa....=P
CHKLHG: Haha....no man, it's hard these days.
Mike: Come on! You want to meet some girls? I got alot of them who work for me here. I'll introduce you to them.
Me: *grin*
CHKLHG: Nah man, that's all you
Mike: No way, I got married a long time ago and have been paying for it ever since.
Me: Hahaha
CHKLHG: Hahaha

Mike was a funny guy. Genuine in all aspects too. He was really friendly and eager to pass the time talking to us. One thing that I've always enjoyed is meeting random people in various walks of life and just chatting. You never know how you can brighten up a person's day by just offering up a few words or phrases. Its in this spirit that I'll probably keep going back to that restaurant. Maintain the friendship and maybe even start sharing a bit about my life to him one day as well. Hahaha....just a unique incident that I thought was neat....=)

Totally going on a tangent here....you guys ever heard of title IX? This was a nifty little piece of legislation passed in 1972 that prohibited federally funded institutions from practicing sex discrimination within education or athletics. Cool huh? This landmark ruling paved the way for many American women to start carving their own niches in various sports and eventually attain stardom in society today. As a fairly avid watcher of women's sports I've always had a place in my mind reserved for Title !X and its history. Here are a few of my favorite female athletes and their respective sports: ( Numero Uno in Caps )

WNBA: Ticha Penichero, Stacy Dales Schuman, SUE BIRD, Ruth Riley, Lauren Jackson, Lindsey Yamasaki, Chamique Holdsclaw, Nicky McCray,.....too many!!!

College Basketball: Alaina Beard, Diana Taurasi, Ashley Robinson, Courtney Pastner, Brittany Hunter, NICOLE WOLFF, Ann Strother, Gwen Jackson.....

Softball: Christa Williams.....and CAT OSTERMANN!!!! Dude....this girl got game!!

Golf: Se Ri Pak, Anika Sorenstam, KARRIE WEBB, Dottie Pepper, Grace Park, Betsy King, Julie Inkster, Meg Mallon ........

Tennis: Martina Hingis, Daniela Hantuchova, Chris Evert, Gabby Sabatini, JELENA DOKIC, Ashley Harkleroad, Shi Ting Wang, Lindsey Davenport........

Soccer: Mia Hamm, Briana Scurry, SUN WEN, Tiffany Milbrett, Brandi Chastain.......

Figure Skating: Christie Yamaguchi, MICHELLE KWAN, Oksana Baiul, Nancy Kerrigan, Midori Ito, ....side note....don't like Tara Lipinski....little midget....=P

Gymnastics: The entire US squad from 1996 in Atlanta....DOMINIQUE MOCEANU, Kerri Strug...another midget, Shannon Miller, Dominique Dawes, Amy Chow.....

Swimming: ASHLEY TAPPIN, Dana Torres, Jenny Thompson, Summer Sanders, Amy Van Dyken......

Misc. Sports: Marion Jones, Jeanette Lee, Charlotte Grimaldi, Zara Phillips.......

Ok that's pretty much it I think...as far as major sports that I've kept up with now and then.....boy this has been random....I'm tired....gonna take a shower and hit the sack....peace.

Monday, May 05, 2003:

I was chatting with this fisherman the other day....in between bites of savory sea creatures he managed to inform me that the last time I put finger to key to online text via blogger was March 27th, 2003. Whoa nelly.....where have the days gone by? Going with POC's interesting flavor of three dot commentary...

...Went to Owen and Amy's wedding. It was so beautiful. Makes me wish more of my friends/family were getting married in the near future. For me, the highlight of the evening was an isolated and intimate one. Some time into the reception I happened to glance at the bridal table where the celebrating couple were seated alone and in each other's arms. Their table was elevated well above the rest of the others, which allowed them a spacious view over the entire ball room we were partying in. It was so cool....the two of them sitting there surveying the nights events. Almost beaming. You know? Haha...I hope so....but yeah, that was my moment captured from an otherwise fast paced evening. Some other peculiar things experienced: Parry Shen staying out in the sun too long...come to think of it...alot of people there were strangely sunburned, CHKLHGame getting "down on his knees" during a popular New Order song, the Texas dudes sitting the whole night out....what's up with that?, Me, Shorty, and FobLaw surprising each other with designer cocktails, Mother of the bride...tearing it up on the dance floor, Hosmurf doing the "I think I need to be reoiled" soon robot dance, finally....myself....the crippled rabbit has entered the building once again...=P

...I got to attend my second beauty pageant of the year as well. The 2003 San Francisco Cherry Blossom Beauty Queen Pageant to be exact. Our friend AOkra was competing as a contestant this year so we all had a little more at stake when the curtains drew and the evening began. At the end of a closely contested evening, contestant number 1 didn't come out within the top two....BOOOO!!!!....but emerged way ahead in a few intangible departments in my mind. First, it totally looked like she had a lot of fun...which was a great sign that the experience was awesome. And secondly....the Okra entourage was easily 20-27 deep. No joke. Armed with GW inspired headshot signs and reversible placards spelling out her name either way.....the bleacher bums of the front right corner seriously showed much love throughout the evening. Hahahaha.....you know you're loved when your pastor's wife is right there in the trenches with the rest of the gang whooping it up....=P

...I took the "How Bay area are you" test that POB put up on his site. Lost the link before I could copy and paste it...but the results were shocking. A stunning 57% Bay area rating. Are you kidding me? 57%? Am I starting to lose my honky tonk? Aaaarrrggg.....Gotta go eat some steak and read up on HS football recruiting!!!

...POB...half of those stories you three dotted were about me....that's messed up dude...hahaha!

...You know what? I really don't like this three dot thingamajiggy. Feels foreign and kinda inhibits the natural flow of my mind. I'm gonna sign off for now and post something later down the line when inspired properly. Final thought for the day: EPimp...good to see you and glad things are rolling bro!

Not many people know about the ELEVENTH little indian boy. Quite simply he was the one who didn't really want to follow in the footsteps of the other 10 and at times even held grandiose dreams of being a cowboy one day. In a world that is changing ever so fast, one can only hope and pray.
